Indian fishing boats wash ashore

Two Indian fishing boats had washed ashore at Delft on Monday night.
There was no one on board. Delft fishermen handed over the boats to the
Navy.
Jaffna traders have field day
Jaffna is agog with traders from the South with their merchandise to
attract the New Year shoppers, clothes, cutlery items, fancy goods and
pottery are exhibited in large numbers and sold at competitive prices.
The space opposite the Weerasingham Hall, private bus stand and
Kunniappar Kovil are occupied by drapery stalls.
The three-day holidays are utilized for New Year shopping. Commercial
establishments and banks are open during the holidays from 9am to 4pm
for the public to transact their business.
The roads are overflowing with traffic and shoppers and pickpockets
are having a field day. Plain clothes Police and Security Forces
personnel are patrolling streets reassuring the shoppers.
Death trap
The Kaithady-Navatkuli bridge has become a veritable trap for
accidents after the speed bumps were removed. Accidents occur very often
on this bridge.
Caution boards should be put up along this bridge advising motorists
to drive slowly.
Eight roads to be rehabilitated
The Highways Ministry has allocated Rs 50 million for the
rehabilitation of eight roads in Jaffna. The Northern Province Road
Development Authority said that these roads would be carpeted.
These roads are Thunnalai, Pallai road, Puloly Kachai Kodikamam road,
Chavakachcheri Railway Station Road, Punguduthivu Kurikadduva road,
Chavakachcheri Thangkillappu road, Puttar Kantharodai road,
Dandilipay-Senthanmkulam road, and three damaged culverts.
