Schols for newly ordained bhikkhus

All children ordained as Samanera bhikkhus during the 2600th Sri Sambuddathva period from May 17 this year to Vesak Poya day next year will be offered a monthly financial grant for a period of five years by the government for their educational activities.

The expenditure involved will be borne by the Buddhasasana Fund.

The government has taken this decision on a proposal made by Prime Minister and Buddhasasana and Religious Affairs Minister D M Jayaratne at a meeeting of the Board of Governors of the Buddhasasana Fund held recently.

The Prime Minister has planned to ensure the ordination of 2,600 children to mark the 2600th Sri Sambuddathva Jayanthi. Nearly 500 children have been ordained during the last eight months, said a press release by the Prime Minister’s Office.
