UNP key posts filled

Eighteen members of the UNP were elected for 13 positions in the party yesterday as leader, Deputy Leader, Chairman Secretary General and for other posts at the Executive Committee of the United National Party.

As the UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe, as Deputy Leaders Karu Jayasooriya and Sajith Premadasa, as Secretary General Tissa Attanayake and as Party Chairman Gamini Jayawickrema Perera were elected.

The position of National Organizer was not filled and Secretary General Tissa Attanayake said an appointment to that position would be made at the next Executive Committee meeting due to be held within the next three months.

Secretary General Attanayake also said that Lakshman Kiriella and Joseph Michael Perera were elected as Senior Vice Chairmen of the party.

Three members were elected as Vice Chairmen and they were S Swaminathan, Kabir Hashim and Amara Piyaseeli Ratnayake. K Velayuthan and Renuka Herath were elected as Assistant Secretaries, according to the Secretary General.

Dr Jayalath Jayawardena was elected as Deputy Secretary General and Sagala Ratnayake as International Secretary. Wijedasa Rajapakse was elected for research and law sectors, Daya Pelpola as Legal Secretary and John Amaratunga as the Opposition Chief Organizer and Dayasiri Jayasekara as Assistant Organizer.
