Chamal Rajapaksa inaugurating the new plant |
The new plant was inaugurated by the Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa. Nestle
has been in Sri Lanka for 70 years. "I was able participate in the
inauguration of the new Nestle Lanka chilling centre in Kilinochchi in
the Northern Province also. Now Nestle Lanka is like a family company
for me. Nestle Lanka is a Creating A Share Value (CSV) company. It gives
2,000 to 4,000 milk cups for schoolchildren who visit the Parliament
daily," he said.
Nestle Lanka Plc Managing Director Alois Hofbauer said, "Nestle was
in the country during both its good and bad times. Now it is a good time
and all the uncertain conditions of the country has departed.
Almost Rs 10 billion had been invested in the country by Nestle so
far, of which close upon Rs 1.1 billion was invested in dairy
development and capacity expansion at the company's Kurunegala factory
in 2010.This is approximately five percent of our 2010 sales and
significantly higher compared to earlier years. In 2011 we will further
accelerate our investment by doubling our commitment in these same areas
to Rs 2 billion," he said.
Hofbauer said, "Almost one-third of the total Rs 10 billion
investment plan would relate to dairy development and dairy based
products, highlighting the company's commitment to doubling local fresh
milk collection in support of the country's vision to significantly
increase domestic dairy production over the next five years."
This investment is in line with the master plan for the massive
expansion and development in the country by Nestle Lanka. Commencing
2011 Rs 10 billion would be invested in dairy development and
manufacturing capacity expansion in the beverages and culinary areas
over the next few years.
Environment Minister Anura P Yapa and North Western Province Chief
Minister, Athula Wijesinghe also participated.
