Temple renovation talks : Presentation
The first discussion regarding the renovation of temples in the Hambantota district under a program to develop religious institutions was held under the patronage of the Maha Sangha at the Singapore Hall, Hambantota. Prime Minister D M Jayaratne also participated. Here Sasanarakshaka Balamandalaya Secretary Ven Itthademaliye Pagnarathana Thera hands over documents regarding temples which are to be renovated in the Hambantota district to the Prime Minister. Buddhasasana and Religious Affairs Ministry Secretary Cashin Herath was also present.


GN on the mat

The Kandy Division Police Motor cycle unit apprehended over 160 road fiends including a Grama Niladhari during a search operation conducted in the Hasalaka Police area on Wednesday night.


Charitha Atak at Bishop's

Wilson Gunaratne's newest comedy Charitha Atak will go on boards on April 3 at 6.00 pm at the Bishop's College, Colombo Auditorium.

The cast includes Wilson Gunaratne, Gamini Hettiarachchi, Harry Wimalasena, Suresh Weththasingha, Lanka Wijewardana, G Chandrathilak, Wijerathna Nawullage and Kasun Chamara.


Lecture

A public lecture on how to become a member in various grades of the Institution of Civil Engineers UK will be held at the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka, 120/15, Colombo 7 at 5 pm on April 8.


University initiates schol program

Kelaniya University will award Professor Shelton Gunaratne Scholarship for outstanding mass communication students.

Dr Gunaratne, emeritus professor of mass communications at Minnesota State University Moorhead, USA, sent a donation of Rs 1.1 million to the University to inaugurate the scholarship award.

Dr Gunaratne was the first Sri Lankan to be awarded a doctorate in mass communication. The University of Minnesota (Minneapolis-Saint Paul) awarded his Ph.D. in 1972.

Dr Gunaratne was a Lake House journalist.


Aluth Sahal Mangallaya

The Aluth Sahal Mangallaya will be held for the 44th time at the Sri Maha Bodhi in Anuradhapura on April 2 and 3.

This event is organized by the Agrarian Services Department, on the instructions of Atamasthanadhipathi, Ven Dr Pallegama Siriniwasa Thera and under the guidance of President Mahinda Rajapaksa. Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa and Agrarian Services and Wildlife Minister S M Chandrasena will participate.


Visakha Avurudu Pola

The Avurudu Pola organized by the Old Girls' Association of Visakha Vidyalaya will take place at the school premises Saturday April 9 from 9.00 am to 6.30 pm. There will be bargains in textiles, household linen, ready-made garments, handicrafts, food items, books, costume jewellery, handbags, shoes etc. All proceeds will go for school development projects.


Kithulaka Waruna at Viharamahadevi

Kithulaka Waruna 2011 exhibition and trade fair starts today under the patronage of Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa at the Viharamahadevi park premises. It will be held today and tomorrow.

Kithulaka Waruna 2011 was organized by the Traditional Industries and Small Enterprises Development Ministry in collaboration with the Regional Development Bank and the Elephant House (Pvt) Ltd.

Entrance is free for this exhibition.
