Trinco to get more power

The Power and Energy Ministry will implement 127 power supply projects in the Trincomalee District to increase electricity supply in the Eastern Province to 100 percent by the end of 2012.

A spokesperson for the Power and Energy Ministry stated that Power and Energy Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka's attention is drawn towards implementing 374 power supply projects that include 1,865 electricity supply extensions in the Eastern Province in line with the concept of President Mahinda Rajapaksa's Vidulamu Lanka to illuminate the entire country after the elimination of terrorism. The estimated cost of these projects is US 80 million.

He said that the 127 power supply projects to be implemented in the Trincomalee District consists of 374 electricity extensions. He added that the Ministry will implement 111 power supply projects in the Batticaloa district that will include 366 electricity supply extensions.

The estimated cost for the electricity provision for these two districts is US $ 60 million.

The spokesperson said the Ampara District will get 1,346 power supply projects which will comprise 789 electricity supply extensions.

He added that the ADB and the Chinese Exim bank will provide funds in the form of bank loans.
