One million domestic housing units:
Help achieve target

Prime Minister D M Jayaratne has called for the dedication of
everybody including people's representatives and state officials to
achieve success of the Government's efforts in launching the one million
domestic housing units program initiated under the guidance of President
Mahinda Rajapaksa.
He said the President will rebuild the nation to the level of the
Eastern granary during the times of ancient kings.
The Prime Minister was addressing people's representatives, state
officials and former representatives in the Kandy district to make them
aware on the Divi Neguma program ensuring one million domestic housing
units in the country to alleviate poverty.
The meeting was held under the patronage of Economic Development
Minister Basil Rajapaksa.
Minister Basil Rajapaksa said the Divi Neguma program is not
implemented only by state officials.
He said the entire nation should extend their cooperation to make the
program a success.
Senior Minister Dr Sarath Amunugama said Sri Lanka had recorded an
eight percent economic growth in 2010.
The tourist industry had recorded an increase of 38 percent last
year, he said.
Rural Affairs Minister Athauda Seneviratne, Kandy Government Agent
Gamini Seneviratne, Central Province Acting Chief Minister S B Yalegama
also spoke. |
