Nadira GUNATILLEKE
the Health Ministry will set up sports medical units at main state
hospitals countrywide covering all 24 districts. A special sports
medical unit will commence operations at the Colombo National Hospital
from May 1, a Health Ministry spokesman said.
According to the spokesman, a special discussion was held between
Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena and Sports Minister Mahindananda
Aluthgamage in connection with this.
Specialized doctors and all other facilities will be made available
in the proposed unit.
Minister Sirisena instructed Colombo National Hospital authorities to
allocate a special quota for sportsmen and sportswomen to get MRI scans
and CT scans done when required.
This is in addition to the services provided to them through the
proposed unit, he said.
MRI scan machines, CT scan machines and modern facilities are to be
given to the proposed sports medical units to be set up in State
hospitals, he added. |
