Congress of Religions commiserates with Japan
The Congress of Religions commiserates with the people of Japan over
the devastation due to the earth quake, tsunami and the catastrophe in
the nuclear plant, the congress said issuing a press release yesterday.
The release said: "this destruction is similar to the threefold fear
that gripped the city of Vishala.
"The Congress of Religions expresses its profound sorrow and conveys
its sympathies to all those who have experienced loss of life and
property.
"Japan has been a country that has extended its friendship to Sri
Lanka over the decades and has helped us in many ways.
"The fruits of their friendship are manifested in many parts of the
country.
"The two countries have a common Buddhist heritage that makes
connections strong and stable.
"The Congress of Religions calls on the people of Sri Lanka to be
involved in spiritual meditation and prayer seeking blessings on the
people of Japan and extend help to them at this time of tragedy. We are
confident that the people of Japan would rise again from this situation
to be a nation bonded by love, integrity and hard work and continue to
be an inspiration to the world".
