Sri Lankan Theatre Festival 2011, organized by the ‘Inter Act Art’
society will commence on April 3 at their mniature theatre house in
Rajagiriya. The film festival will feature some of their unique and
highly acclaimed theatrical performances in their own Black Box Theatre.
The festival will portray five dramas and also a short film.
The dramas include Pompinia, Beany, Zippy the Zebra, Mey Aliyata
Geyak Oni and Caged. Each drama is expected to add its own unique
identity to the film festival. The most unique performance of the
festival is the experimental dancing theatre drama titled Caged.
“Eeach genre of art has its own language. Likewise in theatre, the
language of the moving body is probably the best tool that a dramatist
has to express his artistic ideology. Our drama Caged won’t have any
dialogues. It will be an experimental dance drama.
I believe, this is a great way to take Sri Lankan drama to the
international level.” M. Safeer, the acclaimed dramatist and the chief
consultant of the Inter Act Art society said.
The Zippy the Zebra, created by Sulochana Disanayaka, will be
performed using the modern nonverbal puppet art.
Zippy the Zebra an adaptation from an African story, will take the
viewer in an exclusive and adventurous theatrical journey about
self-discovery and self realization.
The festival will also feature the highly acclaimed Tamil drama Beany.
Beany directed by the budding young dramatist S Dayalan went on to win
four awards at the National Drama Festival 2010. Among other acclaimed
dramas that will feature in the festival, is Nadeeka Tharangani’s
Pompinia. Pompinia was selected to compete at the final round of the
youth theatre festival 2010.
The festival will also feature workshops conducted by Sulochana
Disanayaka, Waruna Alahakon and M Safeer. Those who wish to participate
for the workshop should send their application before the festival
starts. |
