Dandeniya lauds President
As the group stage of the ICC Cricket world Cup 2011 culminated in a
higher note successfully staging all 10 group matches, Tournament
Director Sri Lanka World Cup Secretariat Suraj Dandeniya yesterday
thanked the support provided by all cricket loving Sri Lankans.
The three Sri Lankan venues matched the success of each other in
staging the matches in all areas from crowd handling, cricket
operations, transport for officials, media and public and entertainment.
The vast crowds that patronized the games at the Mahinda Rajapaksa
International Cricket stadium In Sooriyawewa, Hambantota and Pallekelle
International Cricket stadium in Kandy proved that the highly debated
reasons for choosing locations outside the capital Colombo to develop
two venues for the CWC 2011 were timely.
"I must appreciate the support and guidance given by President
Mahinda Rajapaksa for combining all the forces to complete the stadiums.
Now it is our duty to put icing on the cake during the quarterfinals and
semifinal games" opines Dandeniya who was a key figure in completing the
three stadiums and staging the CWC in Sri Lanka.
