Gemunu Watch 'A' clinch Uva Rugby Sevens Title

The Gemunu Watch beat Sri Lanka Air Force Diyatalawa by 5 points (1
try) to nil in the final at the picturesque Polo Grounds, Diyatalawa on
March 20.
The Gemunu Watch 'A' played a terrific game who confronted an vastly
improved Air Force outfit. Both teams played an excellent game with bone
Jarring and hard tackling. The Gemunu Watch was able to go for only one
try before lemons which was scored by their winger H A D Perera. The
gutty Air Force on the other hand, led by R G A Perera played a grand
game who gave their opposition side a rough time.
More than 150 participants from 15 clubs grouped in A, B, C and D
took part in this sevens tournament which was excellently organized by
Sri Lanka Military Academy SLMA, Diyatalawa initiated by Brig Ruwan
Kulatunga.
(Commandant SLMA) and supported by Maj Nalinda Maanage
Nelantha Silva (President Uva RFU) said that his Provincial Committee
conducted this rugby sevens tournament to promote rugby in Uva Province
which was a great success.
This tournament was held with the help of SLRFU Development
committee.
The results: The plate was won by SLMA 'A' Diyatalawa beating Gemunu
'B' 5 points to nil, while the Bowl was won by Badulla RFC who beat (Old
Josophians RFC 17 points to 7.
The best player award was won by H A D Perera of Gemunu Watch 'A' The
final was refereed by Mahesh Gunaratne.
