UPFA Local Government heads by tomorrow

The UPFA will finalize its heads of Local Government Institutions won by it , by tomorrow, UPFA General Secretary Susil Premajayantha said.

Addressing the media at the Mahaweli Centre yesterday, he said that the names will be sent to the returning officers by tomorrow after completing the selection process. The names of the heads of local Government Institutions together with the elected members will be published in a Gazette notification by March 28.

Thereafter they would be sworn-in on due course, he added. SLFP General Secretary Minister Maithreepala Sirisena said that, a Committee will be appointed to select the heads of the Local Government bodies. The committee will consider the experience, capabilities, ability to carry responsibilities and several other qualities before naming heads for Local Government bodies. Even the number of preferential votes one has received will not be the main criteria for selection.

He further said that the election result indicates that a majority of people have reposed their trust in the present Government.

Youth Affairs Minister Dullas Alahapperuma said that the UNP and JVP have failed again to identify the reasons behind their failure. As usual this time too they have put forward baseless allegations against others.

The Minister stressed that the UPFA has obtained the biggest ever victory at Local Government elections since the UPFA has won nine of every 10 councils.

Ministers Wimal Weerawansa, Patali Champika Ranawaka, Rishad Bathiudeen, and Deputy Minister Vinayagamurthy Muralitharan also addressed the media.
