Cruel mother nabbed
S M Wijayaratne, Kurunegala Corr
A mother who attempted to give poison to her
two-day-old infant with breast milk was taken into custody at the
Chilaw General Hospital yesterday. The suspect is a resident of
Wellarawa of Bingiriya in the Kurunegala District. The woman was not
legally married and her boyfriend had brought the vial of poison to
the hospital.
Bodhi Pujas
A decision has been taken on the guidance of
President Mahinda Rajapaksa to hold Bodhi Pujas to invoke merit on
those who lost their lives due to the tsunami in Japan. They will
also be held to invoke blessings on those affected.
District level Pinkamas and Divisional Secretariat
Division level Pinkamas will be held at 7 am on March 27 with the
assistance of the District Sasanarakshaka Mandalayas and Pradeshiya
Sasanarakshaka Mandalayas, the Police Department, Sri Lanka Samurdhi
Authority and other State sector institutions.
Infant dies

A five-month-old girl who had been given a vaccine
by a mobile health clinic has died after admitting to the Chilaw
Hospital.
The infant who died on March 21 was Warnakulasooriya
Nisheni Welani Deepthi Ahinga Fernando of Welihena in Chilaw.

The annual overnight pirith sajjayana of St Joseph’s
Girls School, Nugegoda will be held on March 25 and heel dana will
be offered to 25 Buddhist monks on the following day.
AGM
The sixth Annual General Meeting of the Professional
Counsellors Association of Sri Lanka (Affiliated to Sri Lanka
Foundation) will be held on Sunday March 27 at 2.30 pm at the Sri
Lanka Foundation Institute Hall, Colombo 07.
Diploma awards
The awards ceremony for the Diploma Course for
hyphotists conducted by the Institute of psychological counsellors
and the Hyphostic Education Centre, affiliated to the Sri Lanka
Hyphotists Association will be held at 2pm today at the Sri Lanka
Post Headquarters Auditorium, D R Wijewardene Mawatha, Colombo 10.
AG’s advise sought

Colombo Chief Magistrate and Additional District
Judge Rashmi Singappuli directed the Criminal Investigation
Department (CID) to obtain instructions from the Attorney General in
connection with Velayudan Dayanidhi alias Daya Master and the former
LTTE translator Velupillie Kumaru Pancharatnam alias George Master
and submit a comprehensive report to Court on the next date.
The two former LTTE leaders yesterday appeared in
Court. They were directed to appear in Court again on April 25. The
Court also remanded the LTTE political wing leader Subramaniam
Sivagami alias Thamilini till May 5.
