Provincial Fisheries Minister Sanath Nishantha handing over the first cheque issued under the loan scheme. Lankaputhra Development Brank Wennappuwa Branch Manager Udai Ranatunga looks on

Lankaputhra Development Bank is disbursing a sum of over 35 million rupees to fishermen under the Deewara Diriya loan scheme.

This loan scheme, jointly implemented by the Lankaputhra Development Bank Wennappuwa branch and the Provincial Fisheries Ministry, was launched recently at the Karuppane Fishing Village in Chilaw.

Thus, it will immensely benefit fishermen of the North Western Province. Monies under this scheme will be disbursed through Fisheries Development Societies covering the North Western Province.

Lankaputhra Development Bank Wennappuwa branch Manager Udai Ranatunga, launching the Deewara Diriya loan scheme, said that funds are disbursed under this scheme to fishermen without the traditional sureties and guarantees.
