Barefoot Art Gallery is set to shine with artistic charisma for the
whole of next three weeks. The gallery is all set for a grand exhibition
where the acclaimed local artists will join in hands with their
Pakistani counterparts to showcase their creative prowess at the event.
Starting from tomorrow, the exhibition titled 'Non Aligned' will go on
till April 17. Six artists from Sri Lanka and Pakistan will get together
at the exhibition to charm your hearts by showcasing their unique
talents in painting, drawing, video art and print making.
The exhibition will feature six artists. From Sri Lanka Muhanned
Cader, Vaidehi Raja and Thamotharampillai Shanaathanan will showcase
arts on the display. From Pakistan Mariah Lookman, Lala Rukh and Ieuwan
Weinman will fly over from Pakistan to display their creative works at
the exhibition. The exhibition is curated by Pakistani artist Mariah
Lookman.
The exhibition brings together a variety of work from artists of
different backgrounds and experiences. Unlike in solo exhibitions where
the artist's individual identity and style is highlighted, a group
exhibition will focus on bringing people together and providing them
with a chance to share their perceptions as a collective work.
One well known local artist Shanaathanan who will be participating at
the exhibition stated: "Most times we get to see solo exhibitions. But
this is a collective work. Group activity is very important, every
artist have their own ideology or their own way of perceiving the world.
They have their own way of defining art.
"Therefore the exhibition is sure to provide those artists with a
great opportunity to share their experiences and their perceptions about
art."
The works on display will highlight different issues, ranging from
the personal, collective, political and environmental presented in tones
varying from the reverential to humorous. "The exhibition is purely
about art. We don't have political or any other individual, self serving
agendas." Shanaathanan said. The exhibition is also expected to provide
a new dimension to the Colombo based art practice.
