‘Celebrate victory peacefully’

Inspector General of Police Mahinda Balasuriya appealed to candidates, their supporters and the public to celebrate the victory peacefully without violating the law.

The IGP thanked Elections Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayake, all ranks of Police personnel including Senior DIG (Admin) N K Ilangakoon, Senior DIG (elections) Gamini Navaratne and his staff, STF, candidates, Security Forces, Police and State officers and the public who assisted the Police to ensure a fair and peaceful election on March 17.

Processions and meetings are banned for the next few days.

The IGP appealed to the public to assist the Police to maintain law and order in the country.

The IGP also thanked the electronic and print media.
