Dharmaraja College 'Rugby Day'
'Rugby Day' of the Dharmaraja College, Kandy was held at the
Nittawela rugger grounds for two days on February 25 and 26. Teams from
Grade 4 to Grade 8 of the school participated in this annual Rugby Day
held for five consecutive years.
The chief guest was Chinthaka Wijesuriya, an old boy of Dharmaraja
College, who represented the school in rugby from 1974 to 1976 and Aruna
Kalinga, former skipper was the guest of honour.
Photographs of almost all the past rugby teams of the school, the
name boards of the past captains were unveiled at the premises by the
chief guest and the guest of honour. It was a carnival atmosphere where
over 1,000 students had the experience of playing rugby and all the
participants received certificates and trophies were awarded to the
winning teams.
The final match between old boys and present boys played for E N
Thomas Memorial Trophy was a thrilling match and it was won by the old
boys team by a narrow margin of 7 (1 goal) - nil. The try was scored by
S Munidasa and it was converted by P Premasiri.
