Cop among fertilizer pilferers

Five suspects including a police officer who were taking a consignment of 100 bags of subsidized fertilizer to be sold were arrested at Walapane Keerthi Bandara Pura by the Walapane police.

The subsidized fertilizer were to be distributed among farmers in Aralaganwila area.

The consignment of 100 bags included three varieties of fertilizer valued at Rs 200,000, the police said. The police said the suspects were in the habit of selling subsidized fertilizer for some time and the chief member of the gang was another police officer.

The police are conducting investigations to arrest the chief suspect as well.
