Boost for coir products

A self-employment program called Kapruka Villages has been drawn up to encourage coir products.

The program has been undertaken jointly by the Coconut Cultivation Board and the Coconut Cultivation Authority to help coconut cultivators whose harvests have been affected by a coconut disease.

Coconut trees in Matara, Hambantota and Galle districts have been affected by the disease.

These coir products are aimed at the foreign market.
