Jobs for flood-hit

Nearly 111,000 persons affected by the recent floods in the Anuradhapura District are offered daily employment at the rehabilitation sites when dilapidated and damaged roads, tanks, anicuts, buildings and houses are repaired.

Anuradhapura District Secretary H M K Herath told the Daily News that work has already begun.

"One person of each family is given work at work sites on the basis of four to six hours per day for four days per week thus earning Rs 8,000 per month," he said. He said that employing 111,000 persons in the district is in progress in Horowpathana, Kekirawa and Galenbindunuwewa DS divisions.
