World Bank provides US $ 300 million

The World Bank has agreed to provide US$ 300 million to develop the
Maduru Oya Southern dam and to fix a precautionary warning system to
inform people about floods in time, said Irrigation and Water Resources
Management Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva.
Under the Dam Safety and Water Resources Management Project the Word
Bank has spent Rs 7500 million to renovate 32 major reservoirs under a
five years program.
Irrigation Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva emphasized that, there
were 80 large and medium scale reservoirs which had to be renovated.
The Ministry would take measures to renovate all these reservoirs
under the above project.
A group of World Bank representatives called on Irrigation and Water
Resources Management Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva and expressed
satisfaction about the progress of the project.
