Scholarships for Ranaviru children

The Government has launched a program to utilize the man power of the Sri Lanka Army to develop the country. The President has commenced a program titled Real Star, the Media Centre for National Security Director General Lakshman Hulugalla said.

He was addressing a ceremony for providing donations to children of Army families at the Media Centre for National Security yesterday. Thirty children were provided with educational scholarships for one year on this occasion. Under this program the organizers have planned to provide Rs 360,000 per year for children of Ranaviru families.

Sri Lankans working in Kuwait have conducted this program which has been launched under the direction of a Sri Lankan working in Kuwait Gamini Wijeratna. Veteran journalist Daya Lankapura has coordinated this program from Sri Lanka.

This Sri Lankan group working in Kuwait had held a musical show “Suramya Rathriya” in Kuwait to collect funds for this purpose. Brigadier Rajitha Ampemotti participated in this event as the chief guest. Other Sri Lankans also supported this program, under which the Sri Lanka Ranaviru Authority sends funds for Ranaviru families monthly.

Hulugalla said that, Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa is rendering a great service for the welfare of Ranaviru families.

”Sri Lankan people are very kind and very hospitable. They work as a unit especially during times of disasters. Sri Lankans in Kuwait have come forward to help their Motherland.”

Ranaviru Authority Chairman Pathma Wettewa said the Ranaviru Authority had provided funds for Ranaviru families on many previous occasions. “Because of your fathers you would get the opportunity to live in a developed country.” The Government is trying to build the country as the Miracle of Asia.

Defence Ministry Coordinating Secretary Lesly Rupasinghe and Vice Chairman Ariyapperuma also participated in this event.
