Dimuth steals the limelight

Isipatana College skipper Dimuth Warapitiya was adjudged the Man of the Match for his excellent contribution with both bat and ball at the 48th edition of the Isipatana-Thurstan annual cricket encounter which ended in a draw at the Sinhaleese Sports Club (SSC) ground yesterday.

Warapitiya who was the biggest contributer for a comfortable first innings total of 254 for Isipatana, played a captain’s innings of 96. When the Thurstanites came into bat in their first innings, they have to face tough opposition led by skipper Warapitiya (3 for 33) and his teammate Harith Wanigaarachchi (3 for 24).

Pathanians started their second innings after Thurstan declared their first innings for 165/8. Isipatana declared their second innings at 120 after losing four wickets in the 37th over.

Chasing an impossible target of 210 with less than 15 overs remaining for the day, Thurstan were 47 for 1 at close. Supun Nawarathna and Sajeewa Salgado were not out scoring 13 and 4 runs respectively.

Deshan Jayakumar (Isipatana) was named as the Best Batsman while Rajith Perera (Thurstan) was adjudged the Best Bowler.

Nilusha Sasanka (Isipatana) was adjudged the Best Fielder.

Retired Brigadier Lalith Peiris who Captained Thurstan in 1965 and led his team to their first win over Isipatana was the Chief Guest at the presentation ceremony.
