Kingswood on top

Kingswood College were top at the end of the first days play in their P H Nonis Trophy School Cricket Match against Wesley College, Colombo which began at the University grounds, Peradeniya yesterday.

Wesleyites won the toss and invited the Kingswoodian to bat, who made very slow progress, perhaps considering the fact that they are going through a lean season. At lunch they were 85 for 3 and at tea 175 for 6.

They were finally all out for 217 after batting for 99 overs.

For Wesley College Ravindu Suriya Kumar took 4 for 54 and Ashane Silva 3 for 49.

Wesley College who were in the field the full except the last 35 minutes attempted to brighten up proceedings and paid the penalty by losing 3 wickets for 27 runs by close. They will face an uphill task in overhauling their opponents total today.

Kingswood College 217 all out in 99 overs (T Gunaratne 42, T M Medawatte 42, W N D Weerakoon 37, C Gunasekara 28, S Walisundera 19, Ravindu Suriya Kumar 4 for 54, Ashane Fonseka 3 for 49, Sachin Jayawardena 2 for 50).

Wesley College 27 for 3 in 7.3 overs, I C Gunasekara 2 for 17).
