Upeksha Swarnamali’s husband granted bail

The Nugegoda Magistrate’s Court yesterday (22) granted bail for Rs
100,000 including a cash bail of Rs 2,500 to Walawe Gamage Mahesh
Chaminda who is alleged to have assaulted Parliamentarian Upeksha
Swarnamali on February 15.
The suspect was produced before the Court by the Mirihana Children’s
and Women’s Bureau.
The Mirihana Police said the suspect who is the husband of Upeksha
Swarnamali was evading arrest from February 15 and surrendered to the
Nugegoda Police Superintendents Office on February 21.
Accordingly, the suspect had been handed over to the Mirihana
Children’s and Women’s Bureau which in investigating into the incident.
The Court postponed further hearings for May 02, 2011, Police said.
Investigations are being conducted under the supervision of Police
Superintendent Deshabandu Tennakone on the guidance of Colombo South DIG
Daya Samaraweera.
