Polls postponed in another eight LG bodies

Elections Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayake yesterday informed the General Secretaries of all political parties that elections in another eight Local Government bodies have been postponed until further notice.

Accordingly, Local Government elections in the Trincomalee Urban Council, Pudukudiiruppu Provincial Council, Thirukkovil Provincial Council, Karthivu Provincial Council, Giribhawa Provincial Council, Ruwanwella Provincial Council, Kuliyapitiya Provincial Council and maritime (Muhudubada) Pattu Provincial Council in the Mulaituvu district will not be held on March 17 as scheduled before.

Earlier, polls in 60 Local Government bodies were postponed as cases have been filed following the rejection of nominations for these local bodies.
