Recognition of exceptional services
Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva and Health Services
Director General Dr Ajith Mendis received special awards
from Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena in recognition of
the exceptional services rendered by them for the
development of health services in Uva at a felicitation
ceremony held at the Provincial Health Dependent auditorium

Woman jewellery robber nabbed
Indika POLKOTUWA
A woman suspect who had robbed jewellery worth several lakhs of
rupees from residences in the city by working as a housemaid was
arrested by Sigiriya Police from a hide out in Selagama, Matale.
Investigations are continuing.
Memorial opened

A memorial to perpetuate the memory of soldiers who lost their lives
at Kokavil Army camp has been opened by Maj Gen Aruna Jayathilaka of the
Sinha regiment.The Army camp at Kokavil was attacked by the LTTE in July
1996, killing 56 personnel and the Commanding officer.
Newborn’s body found

A body of a day’s old infant was discovered from the Gurugoda Oya
near Hunugalawatte yesterday morning.
The infant was the child born to a mother (40) of Morongoda
Hapuwita-Pallegama. The child birth had taken place at her home on
February 19, Police said.
The mother is receiving treatment at the Kegalle Teaching Hospital.
Information revealed that she had brought the child wrapped in a cloth
on February 20 during noon.
Dearth of facilities

Villagers of Henyaya in Devipahala close to Kuruwita town, undergo
many hardships due to lack of several basic facilities such as road,
electricity as well as necessary culverts and bridges for the villages.
They say that though there are 200 families in this village it stands
aloof from the other village, and is very badly in need of a properly
concreted road as floods submerge the road and even the bridge, during
the rainy season.
Kidney urgently needed

to have end stage renal failure, and have being recommended a kidney
transplantation.
His blood group is ‘B’ Positive and the suitable kidney donor for him

Corrections and Clarifications
It’s Kia Motors
With regard to our article published yesterday on “Growth in vehicle
sales,” Colonial Motors PLC Managing Director Mohan Ratnayake clarifies
that Colonial Motors subsidiary Kia Motors have sold Kia vehicles and
Colonial Motors Group profits have increased by 376 percent in view of
this. All Kia vehicles are imported to Sri Lanka by Kia Motors Lanka
Ltd. Kia Motors in future will introduce hybrid vehicles not Colonial
Motors as mentioned in our article.
Paduru party
Old Anandians and Nalandians will organize a Paduru party at the
Organization of Professional Association (OPA), Stanley Wijesundera
Mawatha, Colombo 7 on March 4 at 7.30 pm. Past cricketers of both
schools will participate.
Lecture
Former Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama will address Colombo West
Rotary Club membership on ‘How Sri Lanka won the war outside its
shores’.
The meeting will take place on Wednesday, February 23, at 12.45 pm at
the Cinnamon Grand Hotel, Colombo.
Retreat
The Community of the Risen Lord is conducting a ‘4 Step Retreat’ at
St Peter’s College Hall on Saturday, March 5 from 1 pm to 8.30 pm and
Sunday March 6, 2011 from 9 am to 6.30 pm.
Public lecture
A lecture titled ‘Village as a Text’ will be delivered by Ranjith
Perera at 2 pm on March 2 at the Rural Development Training and Research
Institute (close to Senanayake Junction, Borella).
His next lectures will be: April 7 – ‘Village as Power’, May 5 –
‘Village as Imagined Community’, June 2 – ‘Village as Cultural Capital’.
