'Maturata used pen meaningfully'

The funeral of Lake House Journalist Sanjaya Asela Maturata was held amidst a large gathering at the Kadugannawa cemetery Monday.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa in a condolence message said Maturata had rendered a great service to society by using his pen in a meaningful manner.

The message read out at the funeral ceremony further said Maturata who dedicated his life for meaningful activities had also acted in a responsible manner to strengthen his family. "Before entering the media sector he had rendered a commendable social service by serving as the leader of the Opposition SLFP group in the Kadugannawa UC and his demise is an irreparable loss to the people.

Mass Media and Information Minister Keheliya Rambukwella in a condolence message said late Maturata loved both the media and political sectors.

He had rendered a colossal service within a short span of life.

Central Province Governor Tikiri Kobbekaduwa was among the VIPs present on the occasion.
