Heavy fines for killing tusker

A Civil Security Department (CSD)personnel was fined Rs 500,000 and sentenced to one year imprisonment for killing a tusker by Anuradhapura Magistrate and Additional District Judge Thilina Gamgae yesterday.

G Somathilake of Dutuwewa, Kapugollewa was deployed recently at CSD zonal point when he shot the tusker with his T 56 weapon. The seven and half feet tall tusker had come to a chena at night in search of food when the man shot at the animal.

Later the tusker succumbed to its injuries near Dutuwewa tank. Horowpothana police arrested the man and produced him in Court.
