Indian fishermen produced in Court

One hundred and twelve fishermen who crossed the Sri Lankan maritime boundary illegally were produced before Point Pedro Court yesterday. These fishermen were arrested in Sri Lankan territorial waters on Tuesday morning.

According to Police sources, all these fishermen were subjected to a comprehensive medical check-up before they were produced in Court.

Some arrested fishermen are in the practice of complaining that they were physically harassed by the Sri Lankan authorities.

Meanwhile, the Indian Police yesterday arrested more than 2,500 protesters who attempted to raid the Sri Lanka’s Deputy High Commission in Chennai. According to a spokesman of the Sri Lankan mission in Chennai, they were arrested as they entered the street where Sri Lanka’s Deputy High Commission is located.

They launched a series of protests in different places in Tamil Nadu against the arrest of Indian fishermen who crossed the Sri Lankan maritime boundary illegally on Tuesday.
