Ampara flood-hit get food items, cloth

CARE International Sri Lanka who assisted flood victims in Ampara District has now begun their second round of distribution containing cloths and food items to the value of Rs 5,000.

A team of Care officials headed by Project Director G D D Thusitha Jayawardena handed over a consignment of relief items to Padiyathalawa Divisional Secretary K G S Nisantha.

The items were distributed among 100 villagers of Miriswatte, Komana, Marawa, Unapana, Galode, Dorakumbura, Serenkada, Kolamanthalawa and Marangala.

The distributions were made with the assistance of the Officials and the Volunteers of the Palm Foundation which is the Partner Organization of CARE. Similarly, villagers of Damana DS Division including the village of Ambalatharu numbering 175 were given the same relief packages.

Meanwhile, the villagers of Alyadivembu, Akkaraipattu and Thirukkovil DS Divisions numbering 175,150 and 100 also received relief items.

Meanwhile the worst flood hit people of Batticaloa and Ampara districts were provided with humanitarian aid by Hayleys Agro Products Limited by visiting at the sites of the flood ravaged areas.

Hayley’s team led by its Area manager M A Ameerdeen visited Pirampadithivu, Muruthana, Pulipanchakal and Pondukachchenai in the Kiran-Koralaippattu DS Division on the advice of the Government Agent S Arumainayagam’s Deputy Director - Agriculture R Hariharan, Divisional Secretary of the area K Thavarajah and Hayle’s Assistant Sales Manager M I Ramees played a major role in the distribution of the relief items containing of essential food items and clothing valued at Rs 3,000 nearly 500 persons from the farming community received these packages.

Meanwhile, the relief items to Ampara District were handed over to the affected people from the farming community at Nintavur Vocational Training Institute under the Auspices of Hayley’s Assistant Sales Manager M I Ramees.

Assistant Directors of Agriculture A R A Latheef, M A S Halees, Assistant Director of Vocational Training Institute A A Jabeer participated in the program and distributed the relief items.
