Small screen, cinema or the stage theatre may it be, the days where
he lightened up your hearts with his buoyant presence will be no more.
Vinnie Weththasinghe, the jovial soul he once was, will no longer visit
your living room with his lively smile, as he made an early departure
from life at the age of 51. Vinnie passed away last Thursday leaving
many of his loved one with tears of mourning.

Though a regular figure in small screen, he was rarely given a major
role to showcase his acting prowess to the full. Often he had to play
the second fiddle to his mates. But Vinnie was never the one to
complain. He was contented with what they gave him and did his best to
do full justice to the roles that he did get.
Vinnie never needed grand diplomas or degrees to teach him the art of
acting. He had it in his genes. Starting his artistic journey with
Sarath Kulanga's stage drama Midi Vela, later he went on to play roles
in Janak Premalal's popular dramas: Abudassa Kolama and
Rajakapuru. Vinnie was a much loved and known figure in little
screen. He gave his contribution to some of most memorable teledramas in
our times such as Dayarathne Ratagedara's Bogala Sawndiris and Nalan
Mendis' Dudaruwo.
He even made his presence felt in the silver screen with his roles in
H.D Premarathne's film Seilama and Tikiri Rathnayaka's Purasakmana.
Vinnie loved the rural essence. A teacher in profession Vinnie was a
role model and a loving father to his son Samudra and a caring husband
to his wife Sriyani Mangalika. Though he made an early departure, his
presence, that lively smile of his will reverberate and linger in our
memories for a long time. |
