Vaskaduvey Mahindasagara, a senior painter with diverse talents,
hopes to mesmerize the Lionel Wendt art gallery with his artistic
prowess with the launch of his sixth painting exhibition. The exhibition
titled Rekha Dahasak is set to open on February 25 and will go on till
February 28.
A unique collection of more than 150 paintings will be put on display
at the exhibition. The collection will touch on wide variety of themes
and will consist of both watercolour and oil paintings.

Mahindasagara, a past student of G S Fernando, is an acclaimed artist
with over 50 years of artistic experience. He has been in the field
since early 1960s.
He was highly commended at many art competitions for the kind of
creative prowess that he possesses.
Some of his major achievements include second place from the art and
sculpture division at the National Literary Art Festival 2008, first
place at the all island painting competition organized by ‘Sri Lanka HIV
Fund’ 2009, first place at the all island art competition organized by
‘Colombo Children’s Book Society’, second place at the all island poster
competition on social conflicts in 1975. He has also won numerous merit
awards at many painting competitions.
Mahindasagara has worked alongside many popular newspapers during his
heyday. He was the chief artist for Janasathiya newspaper during late
nineteen sixties. Later he gave his service to National Service Bank
where he created the first ever poster art for the bank titled, Ma
Venuven Ithiri Karanna. He has also drawn for esteemed newspapers such
as Rivirasa and Sri Sangara.
His talents are not confined to paintings and art. In 1993 he
sculptured the statue of Ven Vaskaduvey Sri Subuthi Thera. |
