Notice issued on Army Commander

Colombo High Court Judge Sunil Rajapaksa yesterday issued notice on
Army Commander Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasooriya to forward a copy
of the proceedings of the second Court Martial on March 9.
The Court issued notice on the Army Commander on an application by
Senior Counsel for Sarath Fonseka Saliya Peiris. Senior State Counsel
Damith Totawatta who appeared for the Attorney General in the HICROP
case said that he will make his submissions on the next date.
Earlier, HICROP (Pvt) Ltd director Wellington Dehoet who pleaded
guilty to the charges preferred against him in an arms deal case was
sentenced to rigorous imprisonment.
Wellington Dehoet was the first accused in the case, the second
accused is Sarath Fonseka’s son-in-law Danuna Tillekeratne and the third
accused is Sarath Fonseka.
The HICROP director pleaded guilty to 12 charges preferred against
him out of 21 charges.
Senior State Counsel Totawatta said that the third suspect General
Sarath Fonseka is charged before the Colombo High Court for Criminal
Breach of Trust under the Public Property Act. |
