Govt to evict encroachers

Steps are being taken to evict persons who have encroached on State land after 2005 as part of the Government’s new land policy, said Land and Land Development Minister Janaka Bandara Tennakoon.

He said nearly 300,000 acres of State land have been forcibly occupied by encroachers throughout the country.

Those who have occupied a State land for at least five years after encroaching on them prior to 2005 will be given legal ownership of such land through the grant of Ranbima title deeds after a proper investigation, he said when he inaugurated the Meewalapataha Electricity Scheme funded by the Swedish government recently.
