University's Vice Chancellor Chandra Ambuldeniya inspected all the
buildings and said that he could not find any sign of damage.
Two fined for indecent behaviour

Ginigathena special correspondent
Two persons who pleaded guilty of behaving indecently at the
Ginigathena town under the influence of liquor were fined Rs 2500 each
by the Hatton District Magistrate Sandun Vithana.
The Ginigathena police had taken the two suspects into custody and
produced them before the Hatton district courts.
UNP supporters arrested
Two UNP supporters were arrested by the Nawalapitiya police in
connection with an alleged assault on a group of UPFA supporters
including two candidates contesting the Pasbage Korale Pradesheeya Sabha
elections yesterday. IP
Food Night market
The Sri Lanka Food Processor's Association will conduct a Food Night
Market on February 15, 2011 at the Vihara Maha Devi Park (Green Path -
Maldekma) Colombo from 4 pm to 12 midnight. Arrangements are also been
made to sell vegetables and coconuts at concessionary prices at the
venue.
The Chief Guest at the event would be special Commissioner Omar Kamil.
Fish auction centre
Five fish auction centres will be opened in the predominant fishing
areas such as Punguduthivu, Kachchi, Katkovalam, Mandaithivu and
Maravanpulavo.
These centres will be opened with the financial assistance of JAIKA.
Three remanded
Three persons have been arrested in connection with the death of a
person whose body was found in a well at Karainagar.
The arrested include a UNP candidate at the forthcoming local
government election.
They were produced before the Kayts Magistrate who ordered them to be
remanded and continue investigations. The deceased is identified as S
Sivaneswararajah (55) of New Road Karainagar.
Royal celebrates 'PASCH Day' today
German Ambassador to Sri Lanka Jens Uwe Ploetner will be the Chief
Guest at PASCH Day today at Royal College, Colombo.
Royal College is Sri Lanka's first-ever national school to gain
'PASCH' (Partner School) status with Germany.
Teaching German at Royal College, Colombo has ushered in a new era in
the language curriculum of this school while also inspiring enthusiasm
in the students.
Other schools in Sri Lanka with PASCH status are Jennings
International and Musaeus College.
Nearly 120 students from Grades Four-Eight are currently studying the
German language under this program, while several other senior students
have also begun studying the German language as a subject for the A-L
Examination.
E W Perera oration
An Oration to mark the 58th death anniversary of E W Perera, who was
in the forefront of the political struggle to regain Independence in Sri
Lanka, by former Secretary General of Parliament of Sri Lanka Sam
Wijesinha will be held on February 16, 2011 at the Lions Activity Centre
at Etul Kotte (near the bridge) at 10 am.
Buddhist discussion
A Buddhist Public Panel discussion of the Colombo YMBA will be held
on Sunday, February 20 at 10 am at its Borella building on "Practice of
Brahman Vihara - Art of Noble Living".
St Mathews' OPA
A general meeting of the Old Pupils' Association (OPA) of St Mathews'
College, Dematagoda will be held at the College Hall on February 17,
2011 at 2 pm.
Mowlood Majlis
The Board of Management of the Ummu Zavaya Masjid Messenger Street,
Colombo organized "Shamail Muhammadiya" Holy Prophet Muhammad Mowlood
Majlis will be held on February 16 at 8.30 am at the Ummu Zavaya.
The SLBC Muslim Service will live broadcast the proceedings from 8.30
am to 10.30 am.
It will be held under the patronage of Chief Imam of the Ummu Zavaya
Kaleefathush Shazuli Moulavi J Abdul Hameed.
UNPer surrenders

A UNP member of the North Central Provincial Council wanted by the
Central Province Special Investigation Unit in connection with a
fraudulent vehicle sale surrendered to the Kandy Magistrate Court
through a lawyer yesterday.
He was later remanded till February 28 by Magistrate S U B
Karaliyadda.
