Tourist arrivals up

Sri Lanka’s tourist arrivals jumped by 46.2 percent in January compared to a year earlier, Tourism Board data showed on Monday.

Arrivals hit a record high of 654,476 in 2010 with a 46.1 percent year-on-year rise and broke the previous record of 566,202 set in 2004. Reuters


HVA Foods listed

HVA Food Limited will be listed on the Diri Savi Board of the Colombo Stock Exchange from today.

The company will be classified under Beverage Food and Tobacco and a total of over 66.4 million ordinary voting shares will be listed from today.


Talawakelle profitable

Talawakelle Tea Estates PLC, the Hayleys Group's plantation subsidiary, has made a noteworthy return to profitability in 2010.

The company and its subsidiaries improved turnover by 8.3 percent to Rs 3 billion and converted a post-tax loss of Rs 30.4 million in 2009 to a net profit of Rs 164.5 million in 2010.

According to a filing with the Colombo Stock Exchange, profit attributable to equity holders of the company amounted to Rs 147.4 million for the period reviewed, from an attributable loss of Rs 22 million in the previous year.
