National heritage to become school subject
The Government will introduce national heritage as a subject for
schoolchildren, based on a concept of National Heritage Minister Dr
Jagath Balasuriya.
The Minister was addressing officers of the Embilipitiya,
Ranchamadama Archaeological site recently. Recent excavations by the
Archaeological Department has revealed much information of a
pre-historic period in Sri Lanka and the Government wants to include
this information into the field of education to make the future
generation aware of this subject.
Embilipitiya, Ranchamadama Resident Archaeologist and Post Graduate
Institute of Archaeology Senior Lecturer Prof Raj Somadeva said there
was much evidence about pre historic periods such as hunting and farming
eras found in Ranchamadama site. These sites dates back over 3,300
years.
Due to this reason it is better if the Government can include this
information in school text books.
