Dearth of Tamil medium teachers

There is a shortage of 531 Tamil medium teachers in 197 Tamil medium schools in the Sabaragamuwa Province, Chief Minister Maheepala Herath said. There are 7,985 students with 978 Tamil medium teachers in 99 Tamil medium schools in the Ratnapura district and 25,517 students with 1,286 Tamil medium teachers in 98 Tamil medium schools in the Kegalle district, he said.

There are 58 Tamil medium teachers in the Balangoda Jailani National school in the Ratnapura district and 189 Tamil medium teachers in the Mawanella Saheera National school in the Kegalle district. Tamil medium teachers are being appointed only by the Central Government Education Ministry, he further added.
