'Upaharaya' to unite all cricket fans
'Upaharaya' - the official tribute song dedicated to the Sri Lankan
National Cricketing heroes for the Cricket World Cup 2011 was released,
in the run up to one of the worlds most recognized sporting events.
Cricket enthusiasts from across the island prepare to cheer our
cricket team in the hope of bringing back the 1996 Cricket World Cup
glory to Sri Lanka.
The patriotic song is an encore to all Sri Lankan cricket fans and a
pillar of strength to chant our team through the world cup. Rookantha
Goonatillake and Chandralekha Perera, two powerhouses in the local music
industry recite the song and the composition is by Nandana Wickramage.
Rookantha remains a savour amongst youth and adults, as he appeals
across all generations with exceptional music talent. The song aspires
to tug at the heart strings of every Sri Lankan cricket fan amidst
diverse cultures, religions, casts and creed prevalent in our
motherland.
The song which echoes the hopes and dreams of every cricket loving
Sri Lankan, will power the cricket team as talent and determination
converge to bring true glory, honour and pride to our country.
Commenting on the occasion Sports Minister Mahinananda Aluthgamage
stated "Let us prepare as one nation to support our cricket team in a
game that has brought pride to many Sri Lankan's.
The song 'Upaharaya' will ignite the hearts of all Sri Lankan's and
take us back to the moment of glory in 1996. Cricket draws every Sri
Lankan closer as they cheer on our team in hope that the spirit and
sportsmanship embodied in our cricket team will take us to great heights
at the Cricket World Cup this year".
