Nearly 2,100 deserters return to camp

Amnesty ends today:

More than 2,100 persons including army officers who deserted the Sri Lanka Army have returned during the last week using the opportunity granted by the Army to leave the service legally.

Military spokesman Major General Ubaya Medawala told the Daily News that the period granted for the deserters either to be absorbed into the army or to leave lawfully ends today. He added that those who do not surrender today would be arrested and dealt by marshal law.
