Green awards ceremony

The Central Environment Authority (CEA) would organize an islandwide
green award ceremony to celebrate this year's World Environment Day,
said CEA Chairman Charitha Herath.
The Awards Ceremony will take place on June 5 at the BMICH under the
patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa. All stakeholders who
contribute to environment protection activities can apply for the
awards. The Chairman said the aim of organizing this event is to provide
incentives for the public towards environmental friendly approaches.
Those who are engaged in industries such as rubber and rubber related
products, hotels, apparels, minerals, medical services, chemical and
pharmaceutical products and transport services with a valid environment
protection licence are invited to apply for the awards. In addition
local government authorities, Government institutions and schools which
conduct environmental guides associations can also apply for it.
The Chairman said that the awards would be presented to institutions
selected by an expert judge panel in order to admire their environmental
friendly approaches.
