Low interest housing loans for Govt servants

The National Housing Development Authority (NHDA), will allocate Rs
4,500 million to be given as housing loans for Government employees this
year, Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities
Minister Wimal Weerawansa said.
The Minister was speaking at a ceremony to grant housing loans to
Government employees under the Janasevana Government Servant Housing
Loan Schem yesterday. The President liberated the country from terrorism
and the time has come to fullfil the people's housing needs, the
Minister said.
The NHDA together with State Banks would provide housing loan
facilities at a very low interest for Government employees to build
their houses.
Obstacles faced by the people in obtaining loans from commercial
banks would be eliminated with the implementation of this program,
Weerawansa said.
Loans up to Rs 500,000 could be obtained by Government employees to
construct or repair a house under this program. The interest rate of the
loan is low.
The Minister requested those who received the loan to pay the
instalments regularly.
At least 1000 public servants in the Western province obtained
housing loans on this occasion and total value of loans were over Rs 200
million.
Secretary to the Minister, Gotabhaya Jayaratne and NHDA Chairman
Jayantha Samaraweera also addressed the event.
