Iran helps flood victims
The Imam Khomeini Relief Foundation (IKRF) of Iran has sent 30,000
Euros to Sri Lanka to assist people affected by floods in Sri Lanka.
IKRF President Dr Hossein Anvari has forwarded the donation to
Industry and Commerce Minister Rishad Bathiudeen, who is the Vavuniya,
Mullaithivu and Mannar District Development Councils Chairman to help
the victims and orphans affected by the floods.
Dr Anvari headed an IKRF delegation which recently visited Sri Lanka
to explore assistance to displaced persons affected by the recent war,
at the invitation of Minister Rishad Bathiudeen, arranged by the Sri
Lanka Embassy in Teheran, Iran.
Sri Lanka Ambassador to Iran M M Zuhair has thanked Dr. Anvari, Head
of IKRF for his timely assistance for flood victims.
Meanwhile President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has offered condolences to
the Sri Lankan government and nation over the flooding that has affected
most parts of the country.
In a message to his Sri Lankan counterpart President Mahinda
Rajapaksa, he expressed sympathy over the death of people and the
displacement of more than a million in the flood stricken country, IRNA
reported.
"The flooding, which inflicted serious human and financial losses in
Northern, North Western and Eastern Sri Lanka, has deeply saddened
Iran," the message read.
The Red Crescent Society of Iran has also donated 20,000 Swiss Franc
to help flood victims in Sri Lanka. Sha News Service
