Sri Lankan medical professionals' humanity and kind hearted qualities
have helped the health sector to secure a prominent place in South Asia,
said Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena. He said that these qualities
are powerful rather than medical knowledge, physical resources, capital,
and laws in the country.
He was addressing a ceremony at the National Youth Centre Auditorium,
Maharagama to grant promotions to 746 nurses Thursday.
The World Health Organization has certified that Sri Lanka has the
best health service in the South Asian region.
"It is a certificate that was offered to our medical staff including
doctors and nurses," he said.
The Minister said that he goes through the complaints made to him
against medical officers and direct the authorities to take measures to
prevent repeating the same incidents. He added that he also receive a
large number of letters appreciating the medical staff.
He also pointed out the importance of team work and unity among the
employees in the field.
"I worked in nine to 10 ministries earlier and did not experience a
kind of disunity and separation as seen in this Ministry. Everybody
should pay attention to perform their duties. For that the
administration should provide them with incentives to work properly,"
the Minister said.
