IFS inaugurates Nano team:

Sri Lanka must join rest in Nano-science research - Prof

Sri Lanka should join the rest of the world in Nano-science and Nano-technology research, Institute of Fundamental Studies (IFS), Kandy Director Professor C B Dissanayake.

He was addressing a research, innovation and dissemination program with the formation of "The Nano Team" or "TNT" on February 10 inaugurated by the Institute of Fundamental Studies (IFS), Kandy. Several senior scientists and visiting scientists including Prof S A Kulasooriya, Prof Lakshman Dissanayake, Prof Savitri Kumar, Prof Gamini Seneviratne, Prof Rohan Weerasooriya and Prof Rohan Senadeera participated.

The Director outlined the importance of forming the Nano Team to harness the potential of nano-science and nano-technology towards national development through research and innovation.

He was confident that with the team of competent research staff at the IFS this will not be a difficult task.

Visiting Research Professor Lakshman Dissanayake outlined the developments already taken place in this field in Sri Lanka and in the world at large.

He said that nano-science and nano-technology has a great potential to revolutionize many areas of science and technology, ranging from Engineering, Material Science, etc to Agriculture, Biology and Medicine.

Prof Dissanayake thanked the Director for his efforts in forming the Nano Team and said that all the ongoing research programs at the IFS could greatly benefit by incorporating nano-structures and nano-scale systems because nano-technology cuts across all scientific disciplines without any boundaries.
