IFS inaugurates Nano team:
Sri Lanka must join rest in Nano-science research - Prof
Sri Lanka should join the rest of the world in Nano-science and
Nano-technology research, Institute of Fundamental Studies (IFS), Kandy
Director Professor C B Dissanayake.
He was addressing a research, innovation and dissemination program
with the formation of "The Nano Team" or "TNT" on February 10
inaugurated by the Institute of Fundamental Studies (IFS), Kandy.
Several senior scientists and visiting scientists including Prof S A
Kulasooriya, Prof Lakshman Dissanayake, Prof Savitri Kumar, Prof Gamini
Seneviratne, Prof Rohan Weerasooriya and Prof Rohan Senadeera
participated.
The Director outlined the importance of forming the Nano Team to
harness the potential of nano-science and nano-technology towards
national development through research and innovation.
He was confident that with the team of competent research staff at
the IFS this will not be a difficult task.
Visiting Research Professor Lakshman Dissanayake outlined the
developments already taken place in this field in Sri Lanka and in the
world at large.
He said that nano-science and nano-technology has a great potential
to revolutionize many areas of science and technology, ranging from
Engineering, Material Science, etc to Agriculture, Biology and Medicine.
Prof Dissanayake thanked the Director for his efforts in forming the
Nano Team and said that all the ongoing research programs at the IFS
could greatly benefit by incorporating nano-structures and nano-scale
systems because nano-technology cuts across all scientific disciplines
without any boundaries.
