Vain effort by Shehan

A hard fought 75 runs and 4 for 96 by Sri Lanka Schools allrounder Shehan Jayasuriya could not prevent formidable St Thomas College, Mount Lavinia gaining a first innings lead of 44 runs against Prince of Wales' College in their inter-school under 19 cricket match concluded at Moratuwa.

Continuing at 178 for 6 on day two, Thomians declared at 247 for 9 with Damith Pathirana contributing 51 runs. Cambrians in reply made 203 with Shehan Jayasuriya putting up resistance. Ravin Chandrakumara claimed 5 for 54 for the visitors. In their second essay when bad light stopped play at 5 pm visitors were 98 for 4.

St Thomas (178 for 6 overnight) 247 for 9 decl (Chamod Pathirane 51, Neomal Wickramasekera 26 n.o., Shehan Jayasuriya 4 for 96, Namidu Fernando 3 for 50, Ashen Mendis 2 for 13 and 98 for 4 (Chamith Bongso 37, Nuwan Kavindu 34).

Prince of Wales 203 (Shehan Jayasuriya 75, Kusal Mendis 26, Tarindu Dilshan 36, Ravin Chandrakumara 5 for 54, Chamod Pathirana 3 for 26, Umesh Fernando 2 for 50).
