TNA MP’s expulsion illegal

The Supreme Court yesterday held that the expulsion of Tamil National Alliance (TNA) member P H Piyasena from the party is illegal.

TNA member Piyasena voted with the Government recently for the 18th Amendment. The Supreme Court Bench comprised Justice Saleem Marsoof PC, Justice K Sripavan and Justice K Suresh Chandra.

President’s Counsel D S Wijesinghe with Attorneys Shantha Jayawardena and Kaushlya Molligoda appeared for the petitioner.

President’s Counsel K Kangeswaran appeared for the TNA. Deputy Solicitor General Shavindra Fernando and State Counsel Nerin Pulle appeared for the Elections Commissioner.
