Flood affected areas:
Treasury allocates more funds
Over Rs 350 m already released:
A provision over Rs 350 million has already been released by now from
the General Treasury to the District Secretaries through the Disaster
Management Ministry and another Rs 500 million has been already
allocated for flood affected areas.
Due to the unfavourable weather conditions in the island, the
heaviest damage has occurred in the Batticaloa district, Rs 100 million
has been granted by the General Treasury to provide relief for the
people in that area. In addition to the above, Rs 50.5 million has been
granted for Ampara, Rs 43 million for Trincomalee, Rs 33 million for
Vavuniya and Rs 23.8 million for the Polonnaruwa districts.
Rs 17.1 million has been allocated for Mannar, Rs 6.4 million for
Mulaitivu, Rs 5 million for Kilinochchi and Rs 1.6 million for Jaffna
districts to provide relief for the disaster stricken.
Rs 10.5 million has been allocated for Matale, Rs 4.5 million for
Nuwara Eliya and Rs 3.8 million for Kandy Districts for those affected
by earthslips.
Rs 23 million has been granted to the Badulla and Rs 3.2 million for
the Moneragala districts.
In addition to the above, Rs one million each has been granted for
Matara, Hambantota and Kegalle districts. As such, a total provision of
over Rs 350 million has been granted to the District Secretaries by the
Treasury for expeditious relief to the disaster stricken.
A further Rs 210 million has been released by the Treasury to grant
disaster stricken public servants a salary advance loan.
All financial requirements requested by the Disaster Management
Ministry and District Secretaries have been fulfilled by the Treasury
and further measures have been taken to allocate provision in future on
such requests of the District Secretaries and the Disaster Management
Ministry.
